MONTE PLATA. – In October, the Canadian-born actor/director and former superstar TV show Beverly Hills 90210, Jason Priestley, travelled to the Dominican Republic with the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) to deliver water purifier sachets to children and their families in need in the bateyes and see firsthand how clean drinking water changes lives. “We had the greatest pleasure of working with Jason and are happy to play a small role in this important campaign to promote P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program in Canada,” said Ulrick Gaillard, BRA’s CEO.

Priestley is an ambassador for the Clean Water Campaign, a partnership between Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart Canada that delivers packets of purifying powder to eliminate dirt, pollutants and disease-causing organisms from drinking water.

Safe drinking water is a problem for more than one billion people in developing countries around the world and, according to the World Health Organization, more than 1,600 children die each day from water-borne illnesses. The P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) program is working to bring clean water to rural communities around the world. “Priestly Jason shared our concerns over the batey populations’ inability to access clean drinking water, putting their lives at risk of water-borne diseases and infections,” added Gaillard.

BRA is now a partner to Procter & Gamble and its P&G’s Safe Drinking Water Program, through a Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action, to deliver, over the next four years, 90 million liters of clean drinking water to 6,200 families living in those deep rural batey communities.
