BELLADERE, Haiti. – As part of its effort to feed populations that are vulnerable and nutritionally-at-risk in Haiti, Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) secured from USAID’s Food for Peace Office-International Food Relief Partnership funding and 150 metric tons of dehydrated food (Breedlove Harvest Lentil Pro – Product Code 404) to be distributed in collaboration with Haiti-based NGO Partners in Health (PIH) to 12,800 food insecure and earthquake/cholera-affected beneficiaries living in Haiti’s Central Plateau over a period of 12 months.
Food insecurity in Haiti’s Central Plateau is the result of endemic poverty, insufficient agricultural production, and back-to-back natural disasters (limiting access to nutritious food supplies). To address the most urgent cases of food insecurity in the region, BRA/PIH will distribute food to households caring for earthquake-related internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as households caring for recovering cholera patients, PLWHAs and OVCs. Take home rations will also be distributed to the most vulnerable clinical patients, including: cholera patients, PLWHAs; pregnant/lactating women (PLW); elderly; and orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
Since 2007, BRA partners with USAID to distribute food commodities to more than 50,000 people in Dominican Republic’s bateyes and border communities and Haiti’s southeast department.
