Reflecting on 28 Years of Service. Embracing a Global Future.
Nearly three decades ago, I founded the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) with a singular, urgent focus: to provide health, hope, and dignity to the marginalized “batey” communities of the Dominican Republic. What began as a grassroots response to a local crisis grew into a movement that has impacted over 4.5 million lives across the Americas and the Caribbean.
Today, I am proud to announce the next chapter in our journey. To reflect the maturity of our organization and our commitment to scaling our impact beyond borders, we are transitioning our public identity to Global Alivio.
Why Global Alivio?
The word Alivio—relief—has always been at the heart of our name. But our work has evolved. We no longer just provide temporary relief; we cultivate permanent self-reliance. From building the first modern health clinics in the bateyes to architecting women’s empowerment initiatives and sparking legislative change for menstrual health equity, our model has proven that sustainable development is possible even in the most challenging environments.
As Global Alivio, we are taking these proven strategies to a global stage. This is not just a name change; it is a declaration of our readiness to address poverty, health inequality, and crisis wherever they exist.
Our Commitment Remains Unchanged: While our look is modernizing, our foundation is unshakable. Batey Relief Alliance, Inc. remains our legal heartbeat and our primary entity. Our history—the clinics we’ve built, the schools we’ve supported, the families we’ve fed and treated, and the street that bears our name—is the bedrock upon which Global Alivio stands.
To our partners, donors, and the communities we serve: Thank you for walking this path with me for nearly 30 years. I invite you to join us in this new era. Together, we will continue to empower, to innovate, and to provide the “alivio” the world so deeply needs.
