MONTE PLATA, Dominican Republic – In November, BRA Dominicana appointed Dr. Jose Jonas Rosario as Medical Director of its two health clinics located at Batey Cinco Casas and Batey Cojobal in the province of Monte Plata. Dr. Rosario is a native of Sabana Grande de Boya who graduated from Universidad Central del Este in 1991. From the beginning of his career, Dr. Rosario has been committed to serve his community. “I’ve always been deeply aware of the tremendous needs of my province,” he stated referring to Monte Plata, one of the poorest regions of the Dominican Republic. Maria Virtudes Berroa, Executive Director of BRA Dominicana said, “One of the key objectives of our organization is to work with experienced professionals and it helps tremendously when they are from the area.”
After completing his residency in Boya, Dr. Rosario worked as a physician for several humanitarian organizations including Proyecto Roberto, CODOPRO, and Children’s International. In 1995, he moved to the United States, where he worked as a physician assistant (PA) in the state of Pennsylvania. After his return to the Dominican Republic in 2000, Dr. Rosario took office as Sub-Director of Hospital Pedro Maria Santana in San Pedro de Macoris, and later as Director of the Bayaguana Hospital in Monte Plata.
Dr. Rosario joined the health team of the BRA Dominicana as an internist in August 2006. As Medical Director, his main goal is to ensure that both clinics are self-sufficient and able to deliver quality, dependable and sustainable services to the populations. Furthermore, he will work hard to maintain and elevate the highest level of efficiency of the care provided at the clinics. Dr. Jonas’ healthcare agenda also includes improving the emergency services provided at BRA’s new medical center at Batey Cinco Casas, opening and a new X-ray Unit, and offering ultrasound. “Dr. Jonas is a great addition to our humanitarian health intervention,” added Ms. Berroa.
