Biography of Ulrick Gaillard

Ulrick Gaillard (born November 15, 1961) is an American lawyer of Haitian origin best known for his philanthropic work as founder of the Batey Relief Alliance, a U.S.-based non-profit, humanitarian aid organization that, since 1997, provided direct health care services, and undertook research studies and empowerment activities impacting socio-economic and health conditions of over 4.5 million people affected by extreme poverty, disease and hunger in the regions of the Americas and the Caribbean, particularly Haiti, Peru and the United States, with a special focus on Dominican Republic’s sugarcane rural communities known as “bateyes”.

Son of Ramil Gaillard and Andréméne Zahout, Gaillard spent most his life in the United States where he worked as Legislative Aide at the New York State Assembly and a Community Organizer. He completed Executive Education programs in Public Leadership and Nonprofit Leadership from Harvard University Kennedy School Executive Education. He held a J.D from Roger Williams University School of Law and a B.A from Baruch College. He also holds appointment of Affiliate Professor from the University of Minnesota and previously from the University of Indiana. Gaillard is Batey Relief Alliance’s Chief Representative to United Nations Economic and Social Council. He is fluent in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and French.
