Batey Relief Alliance and Vitamin Angels improve health among children and women in Dominican Republic.

12 May, 2014

SANTO DOMINGO. – Vitamin Angels (VA) is an influential humanitarian aid organization that provides lifesaving micronutrients (children’s multivitamins, vitamin A, prenatal vitamins) and deworming medications to children and women in over forty countries worldwide. The Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) has partnered with VA for the last five years, under a maternal-child health program, to provide education on nutrition, healthy practices, the importance of micronutrients and proper product consumption, while conducting micronutrients distributions throughout the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Peru.

BRA’s largest partnership with VA is that of the Dominican Republic, which benefits 65,000 children and over 8,000 pregnant and nursing women. Last year, BRA expanded its maternal-child program into Peru to improve health and malnutrition among 2,000 children and 450 pregnant and lactating women in Lima.

This past week’s BRA received a team of VA representatives and donors, who spent the week observing BRA’s distribution implementation and conduct beneficiary-interviews. After a week of interacting with BRA’s staff and beneficiaries, and visiting the batey communities where BRA conducts humanitarian aid and community development intervention, the VA representatives remained impressed with BRA’s work and greatly value this partnership, which ensures that the most vulnerable women and children in the Dominican Republic receive these lifesaving micronutrients.
