If you are an internist, gynecologist, nurse, public health expert, optometrist, opthalmologist or a pediatrician, or medical administrator, you may apply by contacting Ulrick Gaillard at bra@bkreative.net or (917) 627-5026.
The duration for our long-term overseas assignments is a mininum of six months or one year. To apply, volunteers must submit a copy of their resume and professional license, a letter stating clearly the reasons for appling and what they wish to accomplish, and three recommendation letters. All documents must be sent to BRA’s Medical Director at P.O. Box 300565, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11230. To qualify, all health volunteers must be in good standing with their local medical practice boards; hold medical dregrees from accredidated medical schools in the US or Canada; and hold a professional license to practice medicine.
Qualified volunteers will be working primarily in the BRA’s mobile health clinic located in the bateyes (sugar cane plantation slums) of Monte Plata providing life-saving health care to the most marginalized and impoverished, including Haitian migrant children and their families.
All volunteers may be fluent in Spanish, but must be team players; have ample experience working and living in very poor areas in developing countries; be culturally sensitive; and be willing to work hard in hot temperatures. Qualified long-term volunteers will receive full support in air fares, monthly lodging and meals stipends, insurance coverages, etc.
Shor-term volunteers may also apply to work from one week to five months in the mobile health clinic — or as part of the BRA’s Humanitarian Health Intervention Team at the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Short-term volunteers are responsible for their own lodging, meals, travel and ground transportation costs.
