SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic. – The Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) – based in Santo Domingo, as part of its artistic promotion of young Dominican artists, is hosting an art exhibit for the talented artist, Ed Vasquez, on September 5 at 7:00pm. The address for FUNGLODE is Calle General de Marchena, No. 26, La Esperilla, Santo Domingo.
The exhibit, entitled, “Huella: entre luces y silencio”, which will last until September 19, will benefit the humanitarian work of the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA Dominicana) on behalf of the Dominican Republic’s most vulnerable populations in impoverished urban barrios, bateyes, and rural slum communities. “For me, it is the appropriate thing to do, supporting a serious organization like BRA that helps poor people of my country,” said Ed Vasquez. “It is indeed an honorable gesture of Ed and FUNGLODE to extend their support to our work,” added Ulrick Gaillard, CEO of the BRA.
This exhibit, which will showcase 18 of the artist’s best paintings, falls under the Batey Relief Alliance’s new initiative, called “The Art of Saving Lives”, a program that involves Dominican as well as international artists who donate their artwork to be sold or auctioned, the proceeds of which, to help advance the mission of the organization. So far, more than seven Haitian and Dominican artists have contributed their artwork to the effort. Gaillard explained that each time a person purchases a painting from the organization’s partner artists, she is also helping BRA to deliver quality services to those in need.
Ed Vasquez was born in Santo Domingo in 1979 and graduated with honors from the prestigious art school, Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic. The exhibit’s curator is Abil Peralta Aguero, and the art critics Delia Blanco.
