Launched in 2018, the BRA Women’s Empowerment Initiative aimed to deliver skills training, micro loans and other resources to women and girls needed to achieve gender equality rights and succeed. Through agricultural and small business ventures, women will reach a certain level of economic independence—a path to escape violence, support their households as well as reinvest in their community. BRA’s work on gender equality dated back 2009 with support from U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Agency for International Development to 850 rural women to engage in income-producing agriculture production activities that benefited more than 25,000 people inside Dominican’s bateyes and Haiti’s border regions.
